Products implicated in the recall, which was first flagged last month, include the ‘Deluxe Sriracha Cheddar Cheese Wedge’, ‘Deluxe Walnut Cheddar Cheese Wedge’ and ‘Deluxe Oak Smoked Cheddar Cheese Wedge’.
All three products come in 150g packs and have a 11 May 2025 best before date, while the recall only applies to products sold in Northern Ireland.
The presence of Listeria monocytogenes in these products makes them unsafe to consume.
Symptoms caused by ingesting Listeria monocytogenes can be similar to flu and include high temperature, muscle ache or pain, chills, feeling or being sick and diarrhoea. However, in rare cases, the infection can be more severe, causing serious complications, such as meningitis.
Some people are more vulnerable to Listeria infections, including those over 65 years of age, pregnant women and their unborn babies, babies less than one month old and people with weakened immune systems.
Lidl Northern Ireland is displaying point of sale notices where the products are sold which explain to customers why they are being recalled.
“If you have purchased the above product please do not consume it,” the notices read.
“Instead, please return the product to a Lidl store for a full refund, with or without a receipt.
“Lidl wishes to apologise for any inconvenience caused. Any customers with queries or concerns can contact our customer services team.”
Lidl employs more than 800 people in Northern Ireland across its 38 stores and three logistics centres.
