JPL Flavours has appointed former Synergy Flavours chief executive Steve Morgan to its board of directors, with immediate effect.

In industry veteran with more than 30 years of experience in food and drink, Morgan served as the head of Synergy Flavours until 2021, where he oversaw the businesses operations across the UK, Ireland, Italy and South East Asia.

His career within the fast-moving consumer goods sector has seen him hold senior positions in companies such as CPC Best Foods, Warner Lambert and McCormick. He has also had two spells as chairman for the UK Flavour Association.

Commenting on Morgan’s appointment, managing director Jake Lavelle said: “Steve Morgan’s experience in leading commercial and operational growth is an exciting addition to our Board and represents another strategic move towards expanding our reach and effectiveness.

“This follows the recent (£6m) investment in our new facility and significant additions to our team. I’m delighted Steve has agreed to join the JPL Board and be part of our drive towards even greater success.”

In his new role, Steve Morgan will assist in guiding the JPL Flavours leadership team, providing strategic direction and support as the company pursues its mission to deliver an ambitious programme of growth and investment.

Will Dixon leads the trio of new hires as head of sales, joining the frozen dessert maker from craft brewer Northern Monk. Prior to this, he served in a number of senior sales roles across global spirits brand Pernod Ricard.

“I’ve been following Mackie’s progress over the past few years and when I learned of the role, I leapt at the opportunity to be a part of their next chapter of growth and success,” said Dixon.

“I plan to blend what I have learned from my experience of sales strategy at both a global brand and a challenger brand in order to further improve Mackie’s strength in its Scottish heartland, while winning new listings and consumers south of the border.”

Mackie’s has also appointed two new national account managers, Kirsten Blockley and Iain Thomas – former Wemyss Family Spirits head of UK sales Fox’s Burton’s Companies national account manager respectively.

Stuart Common, Mackie’s of Scotland’s nanaging director, added: “Appointing Will to the Head of Sales role comes at a really important time for Mackie’s, as we reach more consumers south of the border than we ever have, while we strive to reach more.

“I’m confident that Will’s clear focus on our company goals, and the support he will find from Kirsten and Iain in our achieving them heralds the beginning of a very exciting period at Mackie’s.”
