National Butchers’ Week 2023 is set to celebrate UK butchers and highlight the great work that sets them apart from the competition.

The event, which runs from today (6th March) to Friday (10th March) is one of the most popular in the butchery calendar and showcases the immense efforts, innovation and strategic vision undertaken by UK butchers over the past year.

The week hosted on the Meat Trades Journal Facebook, Twitter and Instagram feeds, provides butchers with the perfect opportunity to engage with existing customers and win over new ones.

For the first time in 2023, the Butcher’s Shop of the Year Shortlist will be revealed with the finalists announced on Friday, 10th March.

This year’s National Butchers’ Week is supported by Angel Refrigeration, Atlantic Service Company, Henry Winning & Co, Middleton Foods, and Tican Chilled.

Showcase innovation

Angel Refrigeration’s managing director, Julie Croker, said: “We are delighted to be sponsoring National Butchers Week 2023. At Angel Refrigeration we feel it is important to return the support of our customers and industry specialists. With this event we can help to showcase innovation and talent, applaud hard work and tenacity, along with celebrating the success and strength of our craft butchers.”

Atlantic Service’s managing director, Martin Hughes said: “At Atlantic Service Company, we’ve been proud to service the meat industry, and specifically independent UK butchers large and small for decades.”

He added: “We recognise it is a crucial time for the butchery industry in the UK. As larger shopping destinations move further and further away from high-quality, locally sourced joints and products and the meat-free movement gains ever more traction, the need to support this ancient profession has never been higher in this country.”

Busy year

Simon Mortimer, Middleton Foods National Sales Manager, added: “Middleton Food Products are proud to be a sponsor of National Butchers Week 2023. We have been sponsors of the Butchers Shop of the Year competition for several years but felt that National Butchers Week was the ideal opportunity to get more involved with shops and customers across the Nation during what promises to be another busy year for the industry.“

Henry Winning & Co, managing director Stuart Revill added: “We are delighted to be supporting an industry of butchers that work so hard during the year and this annual event is a fantastic opportunity for their celebration and recognition.”

Tican Chilled, commercial director Jason Wilkie, said: “We are extremely proud to once again be an official partner of National Butchers’ Week this year,” Supporting the butchery industry has been at the very core of the Tican Chilled ethos since the beginning and we are delighted that the sector continues to thrive, despite the economic challenges we all face.”
