Meadow Foods announces trio of senior hires

Value added ingredients manufacturer Meadow Foods has announced a trio of senior hires.

Andy Smith joined the manufacturer as commercial director of specialty ingredients, where he will take responsibility for the sales, new product development and marketing departments.

With more than 20 years of global food industry, Smith joined the business from Roberts Bakery, where he served as commercial director since November 2020.

Prior to his time with Roberts, Smith was commercial director for Quorn Foods and spent eight years in a number of senior roles with Mondelez International.

Head of sustainability

Meadow Foods also announced the promotion of Alun Lewis to the role of head of sustainability for the business. Lewis has spent 15 years with the company and more than 30 year in total in the dairy industry, formerly holding positions with Tomlinson Dairies.

As head of sustainability, Lewis will deliver the organisation’s sustainability strategy, reporting to the Executive team.

Finally, the manufacturer appointed Lorraine Hammond as its new human resources (HR) director across all sites to oversee its HR strategy, as well as talent acquisition and people development.

Commenting on the new hires, outgoing Meadow Foods chief executive Mark Chantler said: “We’re pleased to grow the team with these strategic hires and welcome the experience they bring to key areas of our business.

“Alun has been with us for many years and now plays a key role helping us to deliver on our sustainability targets. We have a strong management team in place and are excited by the opportunities for further sustainable growth.”

The trio of new hires followed last month’s announcement that Raj Tugnait – Sysco Speciality Group chief executive – was to take over from Chantler, who is set to leave the his position in May this year. Chantler will remain with company as part of the leadership team on the board as a non-executive director.

Meanwhile, frozen pizza manufacturer Dr. Oetker has named John Brassington as its new joint UK managing director.

His appointment followed current UK managing director Georg Heerdegen Parsbo’s decision to step down from the roll in order to become a member of Dr. Oetker’s international board.
