Fresh prepared foods producer Bakkavor is to recruit for 1,500 roles across its UK manufacturing base.

The call for new recruits followed a surge in customer demand as the nation re-emerges from lockdown.

Regionally, Bakkavor is recruiting for 680 jobs across its Lincolnshire sites, with a further 196 roles to be filled in Nottingham, 148 in Kent and 139 in Bo’ness, Scotland. Bakkavor is also looking to employ people in Somerset, Lancashire, Leicestershire, London, Wiltshire and Cheshire – a breakdown of recruitment ‘hot-spots’ can be found in the box below.

Donna-Maria Lee, chief people office at Bakkavor, said: “As we re-emerge from lockdown, we have a wide range of jobs available at a large number of our well-established sites, all offering great career development opportunities.

“It’s important we continue to invest in the communities where we do business and we hope our employment drive will help many families to rebuild their lives after more than a year of lockdown.”

Bakkavor produces meals, salads, pizza and bread, and desserts for the UK’s major supermarkets, including Tesco, M&S, Sainsburys and Waitrose. The manufacturer employs about 17,000 people in the UK and a further 2,000 globally. 

Food and drink recruitment

A number of food and drink manufacturers have announced recruitment drive sin the past month.

Avara Foods revealed it was to recruit for 130 permanent roles at its poultry factory at Brierley Hill in Dudley, driven by a significant uplift in demand over the past year. The start of June saw flavours and sauces manufacturer McCormick create 300 jobs at a new 93,000m² production site in Peterborough.

Meanwhile, Jones Village Bakery is to create 50 new jobs with another 65 on the way​ as it nears the opening of its new 13,006m2 ‘super bakery’ on the Wrexham industrial estate.
