Unilever is recalling a batch of Pot Noodle Beef & Tomato due to incorrect labelling, sparking allergy concerns.

The product contains celery and mustard, which are not mentioned on the label, causing a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy to the ingredients.

The products being recalled come with the batch code L9282 and a best-before date of July 2020.

Production error

The incident has been blamed on “a production error”, leading to the voluntary recall by the firm.

Due to a production error, the ingredients list on one batch of Pot Noodle Beef & Tomato 90g is inaccurate and does not include the allergens mustard and celery (although both are listed as precautionary ‘may contain’ ingredients),” a statement from Unilever said.

Number one priority

“As the safety of the people who buy and use our products is always our number one priority, we are taking the voluntary precaution of recalling this batch as it could pose a health risk for people with allergies.”

No other Pot Noodle Beef & Tomato batches or other Pot Noodle products have been affected.

The company has also issued a point-of-sale notice to its customers. These notices explain to customers why the product is being recalled and tell them what to do if they have bought the product.

“If you have bought the above product and have an allergy to celery and/or mustard, do not eat it. Instead, contact the Unilever careline,” the Food Standards Agency said.
