Carlsberg UK’s chief executive Julian Momen is to leave the business, effective from March 2019.

During his tenure with the company, Momen oversaw a ‘reorientation’ of the business. This included growing the San Miguel brand, a distribution deal for Brooklyn Brewery’s craft beer range in the UK, acquiring London Fields Brewery and revitalising the Carlsberg Export brand.

Momen has held the role of chief executive since March 2016, having joined the brewer as chief financial officer in 2012. Prior to Carlsberg UK, he worked for Diageo for 16 years, Rank Hovis McDougall when it was floated and food-to-go business Adelie.

‘A period of many changes’

Commenting on Momen’s departure, Carlsberg Western Europe executive vice-president Chris Warmoth said: “We thank Julian for his energetic contribution whilst leading Carlsberg UK through a period of many changes.

“These have seen the UK business move to a significantly different place during the last six years and especially during his tenure as CEO. We wish Julian all the best in his future career.”

Carlsberg Poland chief executive Tomasz Blawat succeeds Momen after six years in the role. Blawat has prior experience in several management and senior sales roles across ING, SAB Miller and Procter & Gamble.

‘Proud of the exciting journey’

Momen added: “I am extremely proud of the exciting journey we have been on over the last six years and, in particular, the last three as CEO.

“We have reshaped the business in a relatively short space of time and, more importantly, elevated our brands both inside and outside of our business with a portfolio which can support all customer and consumer needs. I would like to thank all of my team for their immense loyalty and support.”

Meanwhile, Unilever’s chief executive Paul Polman is to retire, to be replaced by beauty & personal care division president Alan Jope from 1 January.
