Rescued bakery McErlain’s creates 40 jobs
McErlain’s Bakery, which was acquired by Tayto Group owner Paul Allen in a pre-pack deal on 21 August, is to recruit full and part-time positions in the run-up to Christmas.
Based in Magherafelt, Co Londonderry, the firm trades as Genesis Crafty. It produces a range of branded products, as well as own-label cakes and breads for stores such as Tesco, Marks & Spencer and Waitrose.
Under the terms of the rescue deal, McErlain’s managing director Brian McErlain has stayed with the business. The sale also saved the jobs of all 260 current employees.

“It is great to be looking for new staff to join us in this latest phase of the company's development,” said McErlain’s human resources manager Grace Cahoon.
“We have a wide range of posts from full-time permanent jobs, to part-time temporary posts that might suit students or those just looking for some extra money in the run-up to Christmas.”
On announcement of the acquisition, Allen explained that it was a private investment for him and his family.
“I’m hoping that, in my non-executive role with the company, I will be able to use my experience in the industry to help guide the growth of both the Genesis Crafty brand and the overall business,” he said.
