Wrights Food Group will have recruited 100 more workers over the course of this year as demand grows for its savoury and sweet baked goods, ready meals and sandwiches, the company pledged.

The business said it had already recruited 60 staff since the beginning of the year as it invested cash in new processing facilities. The investment included £1m in a staff welfare centre, canteen expansion and new bathrooms and changing rooms.

New hires have included procurement manager Julie de Ruiter, business development manager Franck Houssaye and new product development chefs Neil Rankin, George Tatlow, Robert Gong and Hilary Sedgeley. HR executive Holly Brereton has been another recruit. An additional 50 production line workers and three shift managers have also been taken on.

‘Rising demand’

“Over the last 12 months we have experienced rising demand for our products and the reinvestment in the business enables us to enhance capacity as well as maintain the outstanding product quality we are known for,” said Wrights’ chief executive officer Peter Wright.

Tatlow said: “My new role involves working in the development kitchens, creating innovative new food offerings for our customers and retail outlets. It’s great to be part of a team of industry experts, ensuring we are delivering original, quality food.”

Over the past two decades, Wrights has invested more than £30m in its food manufacturing facilities and distribution centre in Crewe and Stoke-on-Trent, developing factories for confectionery, ready meals and savouries.
