Multivac Marking & Inspection has brought the first model of its new generation of direct web printers onto the market in the form of its DP 230 direct web printer.

This space-saving and hygienic printer, which is said to be very flexible in its use, complements the company’s existing product range by providing a new direct web printer for integration with compact thermoforming packaging machines, such as the Multivac R 081 and R 085 units.

It consists of a printer and a propulsion unit with x-axis and y-axis. This enables it to travel in both directions and, therefore, to print in both the running and cross directions of the packaging film. Cut-off lengths of up to 400mm can be printed.

Servo drive technology provides high levels of accuracy and speed, which are up to 15% faster than earlier models. The machine control for the DP 230 is integrated in the user interface of the packaging machine.

“With the machine version for food applications, we use a stainless steel enclosure made of ‘hole plate’, which ensures that optimum cleaning can be performed,” says Michael Reffke, the company’s product manager.
