Convenience food manufacturer Greencore has been forced to recall wraps from three supermarkets, after they were contaminated with small pieces of metal.

The recall applied to wraps sold in Aldi, Co-op and Morrisons stores across the country. The products had the use-by dates of December 21 and 22 2017.

Wraps on the recall included a Chicken and Bacon Caesar Wrap sold by all three retailers and a Chicken and Bacon Triple Caesar Wrap available at Morrisons.

Greencore confirmed that the wraps had been produced at its Manton Wood Facility and that the contamination was linked to its raw materials.

‘Launched an immediate investigation’

“Having launched an immediate investigation, Greencore was able to quickly establish that the contamination took place at the site of one of its suppliers,” said the company.

“Greencore operates to the very highest standards of food safety and quality, and is working closely with the supplier concerned. No other Greencore sites or products are affected.”

Consumers that have bought the products were advised not to eat them and instead return them to the store they were bought from.

The past week also saw a number of food products recalled due to undeclared allergens.

Fabulous Foods recalled its Organic Buckwheat Noodles with Amaranth, wheat & gluten-free, because they may contain gluten, which was not mentioned on the packaging.

Not mentioned on the packaging

The company recalled 250g packs of the product with the best before end date of August 2018 and the batch code 18816BRA.

A labelling error also forced the recall of Dr Oetker Regal-Ice Ready Rolled Icing, because some packs contain marzipan that was not mentioned on the packaging. The product posed a health risk for anyone with an allergy to almonds.

The recall applied to 450g packs of the icing with the best before date of October 12 2018.

Meanwhile, Alana Spencer, winner of the hit BBC TV show The Apprentice last year, has been left “mortified” after she was forced to recall cakes and bars from her Ridiculously Rich brand, over a labelling error.
