Morrisons has appointed Unilever’s Refreshment division president Kevin Havelock as a non-executive director, effective from February next year.

Havelock has also joined the retailer’s Audit, Corporate Compliance & Responsibility, Nomination and Remuneration committees.

Commenting on Havelock’s appointment, Morrisons chairman Andrew Higginson said: “Kevin is an excellent addition to the Morrisons board.

“At Unilever, he has been responsible for growing some of the world's most successful food and drink brands and he also knows the UK grocery market extremely well.”

Havelock brings more than 20 years’ experience in the fast-moving consumer goods sector to the position, having held a number of senior management roles at Unilever since 1997.

He has also been part of the Grocery Manufacturers Association’s executive committee and served as vice-president of the International Advertising Association’s UK chapter.

Havelock added: “I am really looking forward to making a contribution at Morrisons, a company that I've known and respected for many years.”

Last month, Morrisons reported rising sales during the third quarter, as its boss David Potts pledged to make the business “broader and stronger”.

Meanwhile, earlier this month, meat processor Moy Park appointed Kirsty Wilkins as its new human resources and organisation development director, effective immediately.
