Nutrition is considered to be the most important single factor in maintaining good skin health, a consumer survey has found.

In a poll of 480 UK and French consumers, 43% said a healthy diet mattered the most when it came to the health of their skin. This was followed by avoiding too much sun exposure (22%), living a stress-free life (18%) and exercise (15%).

When choosing a skincare product, 64% of consumers cited affordability as the biggest influence. However, they also expressed a strong preference for natural ingredients.

‘In the midst of a revolution’

“The global skincare market is in the midst of a revolution. There has been a major shift from appearance to health, and from outside to inside,” said Zev Ziegler, vice president of brand and marketing at Lycored.

“Because of these changing perceptions, the ingestible skincare category has become increasingly important.”
