Cargill and Faccenda joint venture investigated by CMA
Cargill and Faccenda Foods' joint venture is to be investigated by the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA).

The joint venture, announced last month, will see Cargill's fresh chicken business in the UK joining Faccenda's fresh chicken, turkey and duck business to form a new company.

It hopes to "bring together two complementary businesses with a track record of success, shared values and a strong reputation in the UK poultry market".

Under the arrangement, Andy Dawkins, managing director for Faccenda Foods, will be appointed chief executive officer of the newly formed company while Chris Hall, fresh chicken director for Cargill Meats Europe, will be appointed chief commercial officer of the new joint venture.

A statement published on 18 October 2017 said: "The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) is considering whether it is, or may be, the case that this transaction, if carried into effect, will result in the creation of a relevant merger situation under the merger provisions of the Enterprise Act 2002 and, if so, whether the creation of that situation may be expected to result in a substantial lessening of competition within any market or markets in the United Kingdom for goods or services."

Written representations about any competition issues can be sent to Snlr.shyynybir@pzn.tfv.tbi.hx . The deadline for contributions is 1 December.
