Ingredients dedicated to making beverages healthier and more natural took centre stage at last month’s Drinktec, which was held in Munich, Germany (September 11–15)

Wild Flavors and Specialty Ingredients (WFSI) showcased two new beverages as part of its energy and protein drink offer.

WFSI offered visitors the chance to try yourBalance, a functional still drink containing the soluble fibre Fibersol – which is known to limit an increase in blood glucose levels.

Soy protein drink

Also on display was a soy protein drink enriched with vitamin B12. Fruit & Veggie combines fruits with a variety of vegetable juices, including kale, cucumber and tomato.

GNT Group, meanwhile, used Drinktec to demonstrate how its Exberry ingredient could meet the demand for naturally-coloured beverages.

Made entirely from fruit, vegetables and edible plants, the range can work with all kinds of beverages, from soft drinks, juice drinks and smoothies to various alcoholic options.

Reinventing traditional lemonade

GNT claimed to “reinvent” traditional lemonade when giving visitors to its stand the chance to try five new recipes containing Exberry colourants.

Also at the show, a new range of food-grade botanicals was unveiled by US firm Bell Flavors & Fragrances.

With botanicals that include absinthe, curry, and ginger, Bell claimed to have already had great success in the bakery, confectionery, dairy, and savoury sectors – in addition to the beverages market.
