Asda has been forced to recall packs of its own-label baby food, after one of the products was contaminated with small pieces of plastic.

The retailer withdrew from sale 200g packs of its Little Angels Organic Beef & Sweet Potato Stew, with a best-before date of September 10 2018.

Consumers who have brought the product were advised not to eat it and instead return it to the store it was purchased from to receive a full refund.

The past week also saw two food firms, P&B Foods and Cloughbane Farm, recall products  due to undeclared allergens.

Posed a health risk

P&B Foods has recalled 300g packs of its Heera Punjabi Wadi – Indian spiced flour balls – because they contained undeclared gluten and soya not mentioned on the label. The product posed a health risk to consumers with an allergy or intolerance to the allergens.

The recall applied to products with best-before date of December 2019 and the batch code PD8370. Consumers were advised to return the product to the store it was bought from.

Northern Ireland-based Cloughbane Farm was forced to recall its Homemade Stuffing, because it contained milk not mentioned on the label. The product posed a possible health risk to consumers with allergy or intolerance to milk or milk constituents.

Forced to recall

Cloughbane recalled 400g packs of the stuffing with the use-by dates of September 29 2017 and October 1 2017.

The company said: “If you have purchased this product please return it to the point of purchase for a full refund. We wish to apologise for any inconvenience caused by this recall.”

Meanwhile, a manufacturing error forced the recall of four of Waitrose’s own-label chocolate bars, after a small number were contaminated with pieces of plastic.
