Foodservice firm acquired by Danish Crown UK
The 137-year-old business has been taken over by Danish Crown UK with immediate effect, as the deal is not subject to approval from the Competition and Markets Authority.
All 30 staff at the company will retain their positions and Danish Crown has confirmed it hopes to hire more staff and invest in the business in the near future.
"We want to do both - not only grow in terms of customers and products, but to absolutely secure the jobs that are here and further grow those," said Carl Beardshall, chief commercial officer of Danish Crown UK.
"We absolutely want to invest in the company, the systems and the people. And that is a programme that is going to happen very, very quickly".
Leivers Brothers, founded in 1880, has supplied bacon, fresh meat, cheese, sausages and cold cuts to butchers, restaurants and canteens in the UK for many decades. It has a long history of working with Danish Crown and is familiar with the meat giant's products.
"This is a very exciting step for the UK," said Lars Albertsen (pictured), CEO of Danish Crown UK in a press statement.
"While foodservice is a new business area for us, in which our pioneering spirit has brought us far in a relatively short time, next on the agenda is the integration of Leivers Brothers with the rest of our business. The synergies are obvious; I would go so far as to describe this as a major development for our foodservice division."
The takeover will see Danish Crown UK expand its foodservice base in London, Manchester and the Midlands.
