Innovative snap pack design for Walls sausage rolls
A new joint venture from Pork Farms, part of the Addo Foods Group, and packaging manufacturer Parkside has seen the creation of a new snack pack for Pork Farms' Walls sausage rolls range.

The new design is capitalising on the on-the-go snacking trend with the option to snap off one of five individually wrapped trays.

With the new school year starting, the snacks have been designed as 'perfect for lunch boxes'. The design allows for consumers to control their portion intake, which subsequently results in less food waste, whilst the cardboard outer allows retailer to show off the tray contents.

A unique printed lidded seal from Parkside features an integral waved perforation pattern created by the firm's specialist multi-directional laser technology, resulting in a consistent and clean snap when breaking the trays apart.

Market research from Addo Foods Group identified a consumer demand for a tear off lunchbox pack. The packaging has a heat sealed lidding film which meets this request.

"Pork Farms were supportive of the innovation process for fulfilling this challenging snap-pack brief," said Pete Ford, new business manager at Parkside.

"The benefits of the resulting pack will be seen throughout the supply chain; it sets Walls apart as an innovator, has great shelf appeal for the retailer and offers many USPs to the consumer in terms of portion control and food waste reduction.

"The easy-snap process, made possible by the integral perforation in the heat-sealed lidding, is completely new to this market sector. The actual functionality of the packs when used is superb and very satisfying when snapped. In terms of convenience and functionality, it achieves all that we set out to do."

The collaboration was a result of the recommendation from tray sealing machinery manufacturer, Packaging Automation.
