A new partnership to manufacture, market, sell and distribute low-calorie stevia and monk fruit sweeteners globally has been agreed between two leading ingredients firms.

Under the deal, GLG Life Tech Corporation will produce low-calorie sweeteners made from stevia and monk fruit, while Archer Daniels Midland (ADM) will exclusively market and distribute the products worldwide.

“Consumers are looking for great-tasting, healthier foods made with natural ingredients,” said Rodney Schanefelt, director for sugar and high intensity sweeteners at ADM.

Meeting growing demand

“ADM is already helping customers meet that growing demand with our comprehensive portfolio of ingredients and flavours.

“Now, we're expanding that portfolio even further by offering customers around the world a wide array of great stevia and monk fruit sweeteners.”

Also last month, ADM completed the acquisition of a corn wet mill in Casablanca, Morocco that produces glucose and native starch.

Soybean crushing capacity

In a separate development, the company opened a new soybean crushing capacity at its oilseeds plant in Straubing, Germany.

ADM confirmed it was now looking at further expanding its soy crushing options at other facilities in north-west Europe.
