Mars Horsecare opts for a hired new steam boiler

Milton Keynes-based horse-feed supplier Mars Horsecare UK has replaced its ageing steam boiler with a gas-fuelled steam boiler on long-term hire from Byworth Boilers.

The new kit features a purpose-built containerised boiler house, complete with a Yorkshireman 2 3,000kg/h boiler and a Unity boiler house control system for remote monitoring.

The Unity hire option enables site engineers to view boiler operating condition remotely, as well as to share this information with Byworth. Unity is a distributed control system, which logs faults and control parameters that facilitate early diagnosis of potential failure within the system.

In its first nine months of operation, Mars Horsecare has made fuel savings of over 47% in steam production cost.

“The accepted criteria for this project were to provide a cost-effective, reliable, efficient and environmentally compliant system,” says site engineer Eddie Lea.
