Moy Park plans to generate 59 jobs

Fertilised eggs would be delivered to the hatchery, which would provide a controlled environment where they would be kept at the same temperature and humidity until they hatched.

Once the chicks were a day old, they would be distributed to farms across Nottinghamshire, Lincolnshire and the surrounding areas. When ready, they would be processed at poultry meat processor Moy Park's factories in Anwick Village, Sleaford.

Planning​

In its original planning application for the site off Stephenson Way, submitted on 1 February 2016, the company stated: "Development of a new hatchery in Newark will change the way Moy Park grow and distribute poultry across Nottinghamshire and surrounding counties, enabling the business to grow.​

"The development will significantly reduce the road miles required for transporting chicks to surrounding farms, which are currently partially supplied from a hatchery in Northern Ireland. An increase in chicks supplied will potentially allow local farms to expand, supporting a prosperous rural community."

Consultations on the application close on April 11, after which Newark & Sherwood District Council will decide whether or not to approve it.

Hatchery​

The proposed development would include an 8,085m2 hatchery building, consisting of process, storage, office and welfare facilities, a 300m2 ancillary building with waste water treatment facilities, plus other features.

Moy Park has 13 production sites across the UK and Europe, employing 12,000 people. Last month, the business reported 1.4% revenue growth to £1.4bn and 6.7% volume sales growth for the full-year to 2 January 2016.

Highlights for the business included processing more than 5m chickens per week and investing £27.5m at facilities in Dungannon, Craigavon and Ashbourne to enhance production capabilities. It invested £30m in its agricultural base through its farming partners.
