Trump, Schwarzenegger and United Biscuits lead week’s news

Billionaire Donald Trump, Brewdog, The Terminator and United Biscuits lead this week’s top UK food and drink manufacturing news.

Uncharacteristically two US politicians feature in the top headlines from the previous seven days, the Republican presidential candidate Trump and former governor of California and climate change advocate Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Donald Trump was offered free BrewDog shares as a Christmas present from the Scottish craft brewer in hope that it might spark a decision to opt out of the US presidential race and focus on business again.

‘Major UK success story’

The open letter to Trump from BrewDog co-founder James Watt was sent in the same week Santander hailed food and drink manufacturing a “major UK success story” ​as businesses in sector grew by 6% last year.

There was good news too this week for the Real Good Food Company which acquired IS02 Nutrition sports supplement.

Hollywood action man Schwarzenegger hit the headlines for urging people to drop meat consumption for one or two days a week to help reduce greenhouse gas emissions produced during meat and dairy manufacturing.

The environment also played a major role for United Biscuits this week, as the firm’s Carlisle factory was flooded as a result of Storm Desmond, which has hit parts of north west England and Scotland.
