Aluminium foil recycling rates rise in Europe
Data released by the European Aluminium Foil Association (EAFA) confirms that recycling rates in Europe for aluminium foil (alufoil) trays and semi-rigid containers in 2013 reached 55% – but the UK only achieved just above 40%.

EAFA says the figure has risen above 50% since the last reporting period (in 2010) following concerted efforts by the industry to promote the benefits of resource efficient and sustainable packaging options.

It claims continued work by the industry to promote the value of collection and recycling, along with national campaigns are having significant effects. Increased awareness has led to consumers recognising all alufoil trays and containers not only those used as primary packaging can be recycled, as well as other kitchen products, such as disposable alufoil barbecue and oven trays.

“We appreciate these positive developments, accentuating the environmental credentials of alufoil containers, in addition to their advantages for fillers and consumers,” says EAFA’s container group chairman Peter Wallach.
