Dip maker invests £9M in factory, creating 100 jobs

Chilled dip and sandwich filling maker Zorba Delicacies has announced plans to invest £9M in a new factory, creating 100 jobs.

The food manufacturer, based in Ebbw Vale, South Wales, plans to create a “state-of-the-art” factory in the neighbouring town of Tredegar.

Zorba Delicacies md Chris Nash told local publication the South West Argus about the firm’s plans to develop the factory near its existing site on the Rassau Industrial Estate.

‘Range of food products’

“We will be spending around £9M on the Tredegar building to create a state-of-the-art technically excellent food factory, where we will produce a range of food products,” Nash told the Argus.

“We anticipate creating 100 new jobs in the first year of operation at Tredegar.”

As well as making dips and deli sandwich fillings, Zorba Delicacies has owned fresh soup manufacturer Real Soup Co. since 2011. It supplies wholesalers, foodservice and industry.

‘Top quality workforce’

“I have worked in many food businesses and the people in Ebbw Vale and Tredegar are a top quality workforce,” said Nash.

“We would not be where we are without them, so we were keen to expand within the area if possible.”

Zorba Delicacies was named chilled food manufacturer of the year at the inaugural Welsh Food Awards in Cardiff this year.

Meanwhile, the proposed closure of Crown food packaging factory in Neath puts nearly 250 jobs at risk and has been described as a “body blow” for Welsh manufacturing.
