A novel tamper-evident closure is available from Waddington Europe (Par-Pak) which prevents tampering and includes a ‘flag’ to indicate when products have been interfered with.

The Break-Away device is available in tubs and trays and is suitable for soft fruit, bakery and confectionery products. The closure is also claimed to extend the shelf-life of soft fruit. The tubs and trays can be stored in a domestic refrigerator for a week-long supply of children's desserts or for school lunchboxes. They can also store food for parties or picnics.

To open, consumers simply press the seal then squeeze to ‘break’ on the hinge and open. Extended 'flags' indicate that the pack has been tampered with.

Other features of the closures, which are made from recycled polyethylene terephthalate, include no requirement for shrink bands or tear strips to discard.

The packs are also leak resistant and easy to stack for improved merchandising and shelf-space optimisation.
