A chicken processing plant in Eye, Suffolk, owned by 2 Sisters Food Group is to be taken over by Angus-based 1Stop Halal in July.

All jobs at the factory are safe, as 2 Sisters workers will be transferred under employment legislation TUPE, which protects workers rights and ensures their current terms and conditions remain the same under the new ownership.

1Stop Halal has already taken over a site in Stowmarket previously owned by 2 Sisters. The halal chicken producer took over the site last July, after the factory was closed in 2013 with the subsequent loss of 700 jobs.

"Following a strategic review of our poultry processing manufacturing footprint in the UK, the business can announce it is proposing a transfer of the operations at its site in Eye, Suffolk, to another party," said a 2 Sisters spokesperson.

"Existing employees at the site will be TUPE-transferred to this new business in due course. We will, of course, maintain a regular dialogue with all our colleagues to inform them of the handover process and timescales."
