Tray sealers ensure speedy processing of soft fruit
Since their introduction, the tray sealers have also helped S&A Produce to improve product quality and reduced the amount of packaging used, compared with the trays with clip-on lids used previously.
The equipment installed includes a Proseal slipstream conveyor linked to its twin-lane machines, which provide a single lane infeed. Gentle handling of products is ensured while speeds of around 100ppm are achieved.
S&A currently has eight Proseal machines within the group, the majority of which are GT2 Twin-X models, with a ninth on order. The tray sealers pack trays of strawberries, blueberries, blackberries and raspberries in pack sizes between 125g and 700g.
The latest GT2 Twin-X models are able to maintain high throughput speeds, thanks to their servo-driven infeed conveyor and high-accuracy tray positioning system.
