Vacuum ensures safe spinal cord removal

Residue-free carcass cleaning is claimed during the removal of spinal cord material in abattoirs, thanks to a special extraction system developed by Northern Ireland-based equipment manufacturer Macquip.

The system uses Busch technology with Mink Claw vacuum pumps, which maintain a high vacuum for the complete extraction of spinal cord material.

A hand tool with a rotating blade and vacuum line is used to remove spinal cord material after the carcass has been split. The process takes just a few seconds, and waste material is transported to a sealed collection container.
