A recloseable screw cap is now being used to provide greater convenience when opening carton packs, and when pouring and portioning out long-life foods such as soups, sauces, tomato products and desserts.

The Combiswift screw cap from SIG Combibloc is made from recyclable plastic. It can be easily opened with a single twist, thanks to the use of a closure which is applied over a laminated hole. On first opening the consumer only has to pierce razor-thin aluminium and polymer layers.

In use, the three-part closure is applied to the outside of the carton pack after the aseptic filling of the product and subsequent sealing of the carton pack inside the filling machine.

One of the first customers to bring out products in such food carton packs is Spanish soup manufacturer Gallina Blanca. Canadian food manufacturer Lassonde Specialties is also adopting this approach.
