Earlier this year Quorn Foods, the meat alternatives producer based in Methwold, Norfolk, placed a contract with microbiological cleaning specialist Hygiene Group.

Andrew Ingram, quality manager at Quorn, says: "Our site poses a number of challenges where cleaning is concerned, from the overhead equipment, which must be kept clean and free of dust and particles, to confined areas with limited access."

The challenges relate to ensuring thorough microbiological cleaning in relatively inaccessible areas, adds Scott Fowler, account manager for Hygiene. "Our teams are all highly trained and able to deploy a specially designed cleaning regime at Quorn which exceeds all food hygiene standards and guarantees that listeria and other bacteria are kept firmly at bay."

Hygiene's contract with Quorn includes a daily food production clean performed by two teams of seven, with an additional team of four to carry out domestic and amenities cleaning.
