£600k puts efficiency in the can

Food manufacturer invests £600k in canning line

UK manufacturer Colwall Conveying Systems (CCS) recently completed a £600K contract for one of the UK's leading food manufacturing companies.

Working closely with the client, CCS produced several layout options to create the space needed for the food processing section of the factory to expand. An existing canning line needed to be re-engineered and re-located within the site for this to happen.

The whole canning line was re-configured from the discharge of the existing seamer, through the cooker and labeller, to the infeed of the shrinkwrapper.

The layout

The layout also included a bi-directional accumulation table with the conveyor control system being designed and supplied from within house at CCS.

The full conveying system was manufactured within eight weeks due to the project being fast tracked, and the line was taken out of production for two weeks to enable the re-organisation of the line. Removal of old conveyors, relocation of existing equipment and the full electrical and mechanical installation was completed by CCS. After one week of pre-commissioning, the line was back in full production the following week with efficiencies soon exceeding that of the previous line layout.
