Dr Karen Middleton-Gell has been appointed as technical director of the Society of Food Hygiene and Technology (SOFHT).

Middleton-Gell, who is processed food sector specialist at Diversey Sealed Air, will be responsible for the new legislation forums and technical helpline available to SOFHT members.

She will also support SOFHT directors on technical advice in order to help share best practice across the entire food chain via the training, information and guidance available to the society’s members, SOFHT said.

13-year career

Before taking on her current role, Middleton-Gell was technical projects manager in the Food Hygiene Department at Campden BRI. She has also worked for a number of cleaning chemical manufacturers offering technical support to the food, pharmaceutical and healthcare industries over the course of a 13-year career.

Middleton-Gell said: “Working with food manufacturers on a daily basis, I see first-hand the importance of the support and advice on hygiene good practice offered by SOFHT. I am delighted to join as technical director of the society to offer my industry knowledge and experience in this valuable support mechanism for members and the food industry as a whole.”
