Scottish Shellfish Marketing Group wins food manufacturing Oscar

The Scottish Shellfish Marketing Group collected the title Meat, poultry and seafood manufacturing company of the year at the food and drink manufacturing Oscars

The Scottish Shellfish Marketing Group (SSMG) has won the coveted title Meat, poultry and seafood manufacturing company of the year in the industry Oscars – Food Manufacture’s Food Manufacturing Excellence Awards (FMEAs), at the London Park Lane Hilton last month.

Steven Gallacher, operations manager of the Lanarkshire-based business, received the award from Elaine Marshall, Food Manufacture Group executive director. They were joined on stage by awards presenter and TV Countryfile star Julia Bradbury.

Doubling production capacity

The award judges – led by judging panel chairman Paul Wilkinson – praised SSMG’s business plan –doubling its production capacity over the past three years to meet growing demand.

The judges said: “The Scottish Shellfish Marketing Group was really quite amazing. For a small company to create that sort of business model, with that level of innovation and change was fantastic. The group introduced new added value and prepared products to encourage a whole new range of customers to eat shellfish.”

Also shortlisted in this category were: Dawn Meats and Moy Park.
