Leatherhead ceo steps down
Berryman, who has over 20 years’ experience in the food research industry, had held the role for almost six years. Before this he was director of research at Leatherhead between 2005 and 2007.
Current Leatherhead chairman, Dr Geoff Spriegel, will take over the role of ceo in an interim capacity until a new replacement can be found.
Spriegel said: “I would like to thank Paul for his contribution to the improvements in portfolio, profile and cost management of Leatherhead Food Research over the past eight years and its development of new services and research projects for our members.”
‘innovative partnership’
During his eight years at Leatherhead, Berryman is credited with turning the company from a loss-making business to profitable, leading innovative partnerships with a number of universities and restructuring the company into four science platforms (nutrition, insight, safety and innovation).
Berryman said he had enjoyed being involved in so many interesting research projects that had had a real effect on foods that people eat every day.
“After two years as research director and nearly six as ceo, I think it’s time to pass on the baton,” said Berryman. “It has been an honour and privilege to lead an organisation with such a superb reputation and calibre of staff. Food science really is an excellent career choice.”
