New leader of the sustainable packaging pack

Sustainable packaging solution for meat and cheese products

Related tags Packaging Paper

Amcor Flexibles has launched a new sustainable thermoformable cellulose-based packaging product called Packpyrus. Its oxygen barrier makes it suitable for pre-sliced products such as meat or cheese.

There are three formats: flexible format for vacuum pack base webs, as well as semi-rigid and rigid for modified atmosphere base webs.

The Packpyrus Flexible and Packpyrus Rigid packages are claimed to set themselves apart from the traditional crystalline polyamides/ polyethylenes (PE)/ amorphous polyethylene terephthalates / and PE-ethylene vinyl alcohol-PE combinations approaches, by offering a significant improvement in life-cycle performance. Thanks to their lightness, use of renewable fibres and optimised manufacturing processes, they are said to offer a reduction in the cradle-to-gate carbon footprint of about 70% and 60%, respectively.

In addition to its environmental credentials, Amcor Packpyrus is also said to be generating interest in the packaging world because of its 'Kraft paper' natural look and feel, which helps to differentiation products on supermarket shelves.
