Having to use the Groceries Code Adjudicator would be like going to the marriage guidance service Relate – by the time you get to that point the relationship has already broken down.

That’s the view of Richard Clothier, md of Somerset cheddar producer Wyke Farms  – and he should know.

Last year the family firm boss was involved in a bitter business break-up with supermarket giant Morrisons’ over the retailer’s decision to delist his products from its stores.
