The Potato Council has appointed David Piccaver as its new chairman.

Piccaver takes over from Allan Stevensen, who stepped down from the position after five years on March 31.

Piccaver, a leafy salad grower from South Lincolnshire and a member of the Potato Council for six years, said he was pleased to take on the role.

Key challenges

“There are a number of key challenges facing the industry going forward like the need to achieve a better income stream for levy payers particularly after what has been the most atrocious potato growing season,” said Piccaver. I look forward to working with the Council members and the management team of the Potato Council.”

Along with Piccaver the Potato Council has also appointed four new board members.

They are chief executive of Pseedco, Alistair Redpath, and potato farmers Bruce Kerr, Edward Lindley and Dan Hewitt.

Rob Clayton, director of Potato Council said: “It is fantastic that we are able to find new, enthusiastic members who are willing to engage with other levy payers, take stock of their needs and keep our strategies on track.”
