Morrisons has appointed Mark Jarman as its new head of wine operations in a bid to drive online sales and boost its in-store offering.

Jarman will be responsible for the range and quality of Morrisons’ wine portfolio, new product development, product sourcing and setting up a UK bottling operation.

He has 25 years’ buying, marketing and sales experience within the wine sector, having previously worked at Allied Domecq, Waverley TBS and most recently Seckford Agencies.

‘Thrilled’

“I am thrilled to be joining Morrisons. They are a retailer evolving at pace and this role is a fantastic opportunity,” said Jarman. “There’s great potential for development and growth in the wine category and I’m looking forward to working with my team to develop and implement strategies to achieve this."

The retailer has also appointed Clive Donaldson is its wine sourcing manager.

In this newly-created role he will support Jarman and work closely with the wine buying team to source wines for Morrisons.

Donaldson has previously worked at wine merchant Oddbins and Australian Vintage.

Morrisons said the two appointments are “in response to the increased focus it is giving to its multi-channel wine offer”.
