Nick von Westenholtz has been appointed as the new chief executive of the Crop Protection Association (CPA) and will take up the role towards the end of January.

Westenholtz was previously head of government affairs for the National Farmers Union (NFU), where he was responsible for managing the organisation’s political relations and leading up its London office.

Before joining the NFU in 2009, Westenholtz has had a varied career both within and outside agriculture.

He worked for London-based public affairs agency APCO Worldwide for many years, advising companies and organisations across a wide range of sectors on media and political relations.

“Crucial role”

He also trained as a lawyer, being called to the Bar in 2007, and managed a family-owned arable farming business in East Hertfordshire.

Commenting on his new role, Westenholtz said: The CPA plays a crucial role in communicating clearly with the public, media and policy makers about the importance of plant science and crop protection.

“I look forward to leading it in its work in the years ahead, drawing on the wealth of experience and expertise within the industry, to promote the vital contribution it makes in providing a safe and reliable supply of food in the UK, as well as the wider benefits of plant protection products.”

Stephen Henning, CPA chairman, said“Nick brings a wealth of relevant experience to this role and we look forward to him leading the Association.”
