Mussel meat extract makes for more joint mobility

A University of Queensland clinical study claims to have proved that the green lipped mussel extract GlycOmega Plus, made by Aroma (NZ), has anti-inflammatory properties in humans suffering from osteoarthritis of the knees.

In an eight-week trial 21 men and women aged between 41 and 87 with osteoarthritis of the knees took a daily supplement of 3,000mg and completed a set of questionnaires (Womac, Lequesne Index) measuring pain, stiffness and physical function.

Results demonstrated improvements in pain, stiffness and physical function of 59%, 41% and 42% respectively from baseline to week eight. The amount of rescue medication taken during the trial decreased and the general physical function indices improved.

GlycOmega-Plus is a proprietary blend of cold-opened greenshell mussel meat and a botanical antioxidant, which together are claimed to provide significant levels of anti-inflammatory activity. GIycOmega-Plus is processed from selected live greenshell mussel meat, which is full of lipids and omega-3 fatty acids.
