Investment rises in labelling and printing kit
Food and drink manufacturers are increasing their investment in printing and labelling equipment, according to supplier Domino, which recently reported sales growth of over 30% for 2011.

After the first six months of this year, capital sales had grown a further 20% above the levels recorded in 2011, on the back of the new intelligent technology launches in the firm's range of continuous ink jet, laser and thermal transfer overlay products.

"With margins under increasing pressure, the ability to demonstrate tangible product benefits, lower cost of ownership and compelling return on investment will continue to be vital," said Domino.

One firm that has demonstrated this trend is Lakes Free Range Egg Company in Cumbria.

The firm replaced its thermally printed pre-pack coding system with two Domino D320i scribing laser printers. The lasers code onto egg pre-packs supplied to Morrisons, MacDonald's and Booths. They are integrated into five robotic packing lines and eliminate the need to check the consistency of egg box codes.
