Sweet success: Paul Wilkinson will become the next chairman of Thorntons
Food manufacturing business guru Paul Wilkinson will take over as the chairman of Thorntons’ board of directors on February 1 2013.

Currently the firm’s senior independent director, Wilkinson will replace chairman John von Spreckelsen, after his retirement next year.

Von Spreckelsen said: “Paul has both significant knowledge and understanding of Thorntons, gained not least through his six years as non-executive director and considerable FMCG [fast moving consumer goods] and board experience. I am confident that he will do an outstanding job as we continue to progress our strategy."

‘Outstanding job’

The role of senior independent director will be taken by non-executive director, Keith Edelman.

Martin George will be appointed as independent non-executive director with effect from November 1.

Wilkinson is chairman of the Food Manufacturing Excellence Awards’ (FMEA’s) judging panel.
