Atkins aims to broaden appeal with bread mix

Diet specialist Atkins has launched a bread mix that can be consumed on the New Atkins Diet.

The on-shelf presence of the product is intended to raise awareness of the fact that the diet is low carb, rather than no carb, and to broaden the appeal of the diet.

Atkins says the mix contains a quarter of the carbs found in a normal wholewheat bread loaf. It does not require the use of a bread making machine and can be prepared by hand.

Peter Valentine, md of Atkins UK explains: "The New Atkins Diet has recently scored a 92% awareness rate among its target audience and, to continue this success. we are always developing products to offer followers of the New Atkins Diet as much variety as possible, while enabling them to achieve their goals.

"The Atkins diet introduces followers to new recipes and foods that they may not have tried before. This, in turn, helps drive footfall into stores and increases the time spent shopping."
