The 2012 Food Manufacturing Excellence Awards, which celebrate the very best food and drink processors in the business, will be launched this month.

This year there is a new category of Best Environmental Initiative in recognition of the innovative and varied voluntary strides the industry has taken in this field.

The award will be made to the manufacturer that can demonstrate the most significant progress over the past year in reducing its environmental impact.

It could be through initiatives to reduce greenhouse gas emissions; through cutting process, effluent and packaging waste; or reducing 'food miles'. Alternatively, it might involve projects that have helped to reduce utility costs or embedded water along the supply chain.

Best Manufacturing Company

Category awards will also be made for Best Manufacturing Company of the Year in Ambient, Bakery, Beverages, Chilled, Dairy, Fresh, Frozen, Meat & Poultry, and Seafood.

Our distinguished judging panel of independent experts will also select an overall winner from the category winners to be crowned overall Company of the Year.

Further awards will be made for Small Company of the Year, Training Programme of the Year, and the Judges' Special Award made to a food manufacturer that the judges believe deserves recognition for outstanding achievement in one particular area of its activities.

Interactive affair

The awards are an interactive affair, as visitors to our web site at www.foodmanawards.co.uk will be able to vote for the 'Personality of the Year' from a shortlist of candidates via an online poll.

Entering the awards is simple and free. Entry forms can for the first time be filled in online or downloaded at www.foodmanawards.co.uk (where you can also view video clips of last year's winners) or by contacting Rebecca George on 01293 610422 or erorppn.trbetr@jeoz.pbz.

The closing date for receipt of entries is Tuesday July 31 and the presentations will be made at an awards dinner and celebratory event that will be held on Monday November 5 at London's Hilton Hotel in Park Lane. It's guaranteed to be an eventful evening!
