Arla hatches egg replacer agreement

Arla Foods Ingredients (AFI) has signed an exclusive deal with DKSH to distribute its whey protein-based egg and milk powder replacers to plant bakers in France.

The agreement kicked off at the end of October. EU rules outlawing the sale of eggs from battery-farmed hens and their use for ingredients take effect at the start of 2012. "The laws, which come into effect as of January 1, will increase pressure to look at egg alternatives," AFI marketing activity manager Phil Witcomb said. "We also work with DKSH in India to great success."

The agreement with DKSH is a response to market demand for a local bakery expert operating out of the country, as opposed to AFI running distribution from its Denmark headquarters.
