Bibby Distribution has acquired specialist ingredients logistics supplier Atchison Topeka in a deal that is expected to expand its activities and increase the firm's annual turnover by £26M.

he purchase comes in the wake of three record trading years for Bibby, which has grown year-on-year via acquisition and organic development with customers. It includes two warehousing facilities in Droitwich and Worcester with a combined footprint of more than 13,936m2.

"We saw the opportunity to offer an increased range of services to our customers while realising further strategic growth for our own business," said Iain Speak, chief executive of Bibby Distribution.

Worcester-based Atchison Topeka will continue to trade under its own brand name. Md Mike Phillips and operations director, Darren Cronshaw, will continue working with the company.

"Providing bespoke logistics services ... is a natural fit with our existing operations enabling us to offer a nationwide food ingredient supply chain capability," said Speak.

Bibby believes its returnable packaging firm, PLS, which offers a hygienic alternative to wooden pallets can also be developed.
