British Bakels has a major product launch next month

British Bakels is targeting substantial growth as it invests more than £1.5M at its site in Bicester, Oxfordshire, and introduces its biggest launch in decades on to the market.

The bakery ingredients supplier hopes to boost dry production by 20%. It is awaiting planning approval to shift raw material storage to a new goods-in warehouse costing more than £1M with capacity for 1,200 pallets and aims to complete it by November. The company intends to install modular production lines in the vacated storage space.

It also plans to spend £250,000 consolidating wet production at Bicester, after moving some of it there in 2004 following a fire at its Slough plant. £100,000 has been earmarked to incorporate batch picking and extra storage at Slough.

Engineering projects manager Simon Dawson said the firm also aimed to employ Chronos Richardson to automate powder mix palletisation to reduce manual handling: “The total investment for this product is £209,000.” Construction of a zone to showcase products to customers is also scheduled.
