Naturex to launch range of colouring foodstuffs

Naturex aims to launch a portfolio of colouring foodstuffs later this year to suit beverage, confectionery, ice cream, fruit preparation and dairy products.

"The company is expanding the application portfolio of its products through credible scientific back up," said Lionel Lesegretain, colour business manager at Naturex, which is part of Overseal Food Ingredients. "This new range will be obtained from edible sources and concentrates, preserving the characteristics of the raw materials."

Naturex has also installed an aseptic packaging line, to ensure the new range will be free from preservatives.

Lesegretain added that Naturex was able to offer various blended solutions that could recreate similar colour hues to synthetic alternatives such as bright green.

"Naturex is able to generate a spirulina concentrate from its colouring foodstuffs range, which exhibits a blue shade in application. This can be blended with yellow concentrates to achieve a vibrant green colour.

"Several natural options are available that exhibit rich brown colours in application. These range from caramelised sugar syrup (caramel obtained without any chemical catalysis) or malt extract, which are classified as colouring foodstuffs. A colour blend of spinach and paprika is also available."
