Chivas Brothers makes a smart move

Chivas Brothers, the Scotch whisky and premium gin business of Pernod Ricard, has recently taken delivery of a new fleet of Hyster forklifts at its Paisley bottling operation, which produces up to 13M cases a year.

Robert McLean, dry goods manager at the site, said: "Up to 35 lorries are unloaded daily, which contain palletised cases, empty bottles and labels that must be stored, picked and then fed into the bottling hall."

Barloworld provides total battery management (TBM), which incorporates Hoppecke's Trak-air technology. McLean says: "Barloworld's TBM has reduced utility bills and charging time and maximised truck availability."

A fleet of electric counterbalance trucks operates in the dry goods warehouse, including new compact Hyster E1.75XMS four-wheel trucks with cushion tyres.

Gary Gibson, finished goods manager, said: "The drivers like their comfort, visibility and manoeuvrability features such as the reverse horn button on the rear handle make a big difference."

Hyster's DuraMatch transmission delivers smooth direction changes without using the brake pedal or stopping the truck. This reduces brake and tyre wear in the continual forward/reverse operation.
