Five fire engines tackle blaze at Imperial Snack Foods
Five fire engines and a foam unit attended a fire at ethnic snackfood maker Imperial Snack Foods at the Culwell Trading Estate in Wolverhampton yesterday.

The firm declined to comment on the nature of the blaze or its impact on production, but a spokesman for West Midlands Fire Service told FoodManufacture.co.uk that the fire appeared to have been started in a cooking vat filled with oil.

He added: “The units were called at 11.26am and the fire was extinguished at 1.36pm and released back to the owners at around 2pm.

“It had the potential to be a very serious incident but it was dealt with very quickly and as far as we understand, while the police and ambulance service attended, no one was injured.”

The firm supplies retailers and caterers with snacks from a 40,000 sq ft site.
